Judy's Story

When Judy Schneider went in for her routine mammogram, she never imagined it would change her life. But thanks to the cutting-edge 3D mammography technology at Mercy—made possible by the generosity of community donors—her breast cancer was caught early.

Fear and uncertainty consumed Judy’s thoughts as she faced the reality of her diagnosis. But she wasn’t alone. At Mercy, she found a compassionate team of caregivers who guided her through every step of her cancer journey. Judy’s treatment included chemotherapy and a lumpectomy, all under the care of Dr. Dalia, whom Judy describes as “astounding, amazing, intelligent and deeply caring.”

Throughout her treatment, Judy continued her passion of teaching dance, drawing strength from her family and community. “My husband spoiled me, my son kept telling me ‘you got this,’ and my daughter called every day. Dr. Dalia, my friends and my family kept me going.”

Now in remission, Judy reflects on how cancer has reshaped her life. “You have to live every day to the fullest. Every moment is a gift.”

Judy is especially grateful for the compassionate care she received right here in Joplin. “To have this level of care right at my doorstep—it’s a true blessing. We need to keep and expand these services.”

To Mercy’s generous donors, Judy has one simple message: “Thank you for giving me my life back. You will always have a special place in my heart.”
