Mercy Health Foundation Aurora/Cassville was founded to support critical health care projects for Aurora Community Hospital and South Barry County Hospital. Thanks to donations to the Foundations, the hospitals are able to continually enhance and improve the quality of life in the communities of Aurora and Cassville, Missouri.

Your contribution to the Red Door Pantry supports Mercy co-workers experiencing food insecurity by providing access to nutritious foods for free. These services can be accessed through our administrative offices or crisis committee.
Your contribution ensures that routine, preventative health care is accessible to underinsured and uninsured patients in our community. Every patient deserves access to convenient, affordable health care and with your support, we can make a difference, right here at home.
Because of your generosity, our Foundation continues to make a lasting difference for Mercy’s patients, programs and services. In FY25, you helped us raise more than $40,000 — and together, we allocated over $54,000 to improve the health of our community. This impact was made possible not only through this year’s gifts, but also through the strength of prior-year reserves and investment income. Thanks to you, we were ready to meet urgent needs with care and compassion.
Every year, lives are changed because donors like you stepped forward to give. This snapshot illustrates some of Mercy’s most critical fundraising initiatives that will benefit not only our patients and their families, but also our caregivers and our community.
More than $67K raised since the first Run to Care to provide vital assistance to patients in need through the Helping Hands fund
More than $26K for critical lifesaving equipment for our ER
More than $35K in funding over the past two years for our tiniest patients and their families, supporting unprecedented growth in our Labor & Delivery services
On a quiet Tuesday morning in April 2025, a tornado tore through Vernon County, leaving a path of destruction between the communities of Verona and Aurora. The powerful twister uprooted trees, tore roofs from buildings and left thousands without power or water.
Mercy Hospital Aurora was running only on generator power, but was determined to serve. As caregivers inside the hospital worked tirelessly under strained conditions, a man appeared at the ER entrance. He was exhausted and gasping for air. He had walked for miles seeking help because he had no other options. He told caregivers that his apartment complex, like many others in the area, was completely cut off. No electricity. No food. No water. And no way out.
And then something extraordinary happened.
Adene Smith, director of nursing at Mercy Hospital Aurora, contacted Aurora Police Chief Wes Coatney to confirm the man’s story. What followed was nothing short of heroic.
Without hesitation, Mercy caregivers assembled emergency health care kits, hygiene supplies and food. They walked door-to-door, assessing medical needs and delivering hope and comfort to those in the storm’s path.
On that day, Mercy caregivers became the hands and feet of Jesus—embodying the spirit of the “walking Sisters of Mercy” who have always stepped into the places of greatest need.
Your support of Mercy Health Foundation ensures that we can continue meeting our community’s most urgent needs as they arise.
