Because of your generosity, our Foundation continues to make a lasting difference for Mercy’s patients, programs and services. In FY25, you helped us raise more than $300,000 — and together, we allocated over $500,000 to improve the health of our community. This impact was made possible not only through this year’s gifts, but also through the strength of prior-year reserves and investment income. Thanks to you, we were ready to meet urgent needs with care and compassion.
Every year, lives are changed because donors like you stepped forward to give. This snapshot illustrates some of Mercy’s most critical fundraising initiatives that will benefit not only our patients and their families, but also our caregivers and our community.
More than $92K to purchase lifesaving equipment for the ER
Over $78K for a newborn warmer, two birthing beds and new bassinets for Labor and Delivery
Over $123K for transportation and prescription assistance, wigs for patients with cancer, and support for Catherine’s Closet, providing basic needs for underserved families
Over $150K raised at our annual Charity Bash to support cancer care at Mercy Hospital Lebanon
In 2003, Brenda Nutter’s life changed with her annual mammogram. What began as suspicious calcifications in her left breast turned out to be cancer, and it was spreading. Within months, she underwent a bilateral mastectomy and reconstructive surgery.
The following year, an abnormal Pap smear revealed more cancer, leading to multiple surgeries, including a radical hysterectomy. Then in 2005, tests confirmed thyroid cancer, and Brenda’s thyroid was removed. Through all her health challenges, Brenda was determined to keep a positive attitude.
In August 2019, Brenda noticed a lump in her breast. At first, she thought it was scar tissue from her previous mastectomy. But her instincts — and her faith — led her to get it checked. Tests confirmed Brenda had cancer again, this time estrogen-positive, HER-2 positive breast cancer. Brenda began a 12-week chemotherapy regimen, split between Mercy Hospital Lebanon and the Mercy Cancer Center in Springfield. She also received radiation treatments and ongoing care from her oncology team.
“God was blessing me through all of this,” Brenda says. “I was able to keep working most of the time. The trips to Springfield even gave me quiet time, just me and God.”
Today, Brenda is celebrating five years cancer-free. While she still experiences neuropathy, she considers it a small price to pay for her health and life.
“If I hadn’t done that self-exam in 2019, I might not be here today,” she says. “Even after a mastectomy, some breast tissue remains. My cancer came back in the same spot. Listen to your body. Know your body. And listen to God.”
Thanks to donor support, Mercy Cancer Center and the beautiful chapel at Mercy Hospital Lebanon have been places of healing, hope and spiritual renewal for countless patients in our community. Because of you, patients like Brenda can receive high quality, compassionate cancer care close to home.
