Help Mercy caregivers save more lives. Learn More

After learning about the Pet Peace of Mind program coordinated by Mercy Hospice, SFW Partners, a CPA firm in St. Louis, generously donated over $2,500 recently to support the cause. A co-worker at SFW learned about the program when her grandfather required hospice care, and the team at Mercy provided support to him and his furbaby through the Pet Peace of Mind program, which allows patients to complete their end-of-life journey with the comfort and companionship of a pet without worrying about their pet’s current or future needs.

Mercy Hospice care locations in St. Louis, Washington and Lincoln offer the Pet Peace of Mind program as a way to offer care and support for the entire family – understanding that pets play such an important role in many homes. “The goal of the program is to keep our hospice patients and their pets together for as long as possible,” shares Nancy Preheim, manager post acute services for Mercy Home Health and Hospice. “If there is a financial need, we will cover pet food, veterinary services, medications and grooming. We will also help with rehoming the pet after our patient passes if there is not a loving home available with friends or family.”

This donation will directly support the Pet Peace of Mind program and the families it benefits. In Oct. 2021, Mercy’s Pet Peace of Mind program was the runner up for the 2021 Ingrid Thornquist Award, which celebrates exceptional organizations across the country dedicated to Pet Peace of Mind’s mission.
