Mercy Names Cancer Center Lobby for Generous Donor

The David C. Pratt Cancer Center three-story lobby at Mercy St. Louis is now known as the John T. and Janet Baumstark Atrium after the couple’s gift. The donation was part of Mercy Health Foundation St. Louis’ Cancer Campaign and was doubled thanks to the David C. Pratt Matching Gift Challenge.

“We’re in a position to give back and fortunate to be able to make this gift,” said John (Jack) Baumstark, who also serves on the Mercy Health Foundation board of directors. “Mercy has been part of the community as long as I remember and has helped many people in my family. This is one way we can say thank you, and the fact that our gift was doubled through the Pratt Matching Gift Challenge makes it all the better.”

More than halfway to the $23 million goal, the ongoing cancer campaign has already brought about changes on the Mercy St. Louis campus including the Mercy Proton Therapy Center scheduled to open in July, growth of the Adolescent and Young Adult cancer program and additional cancer care navigators to help lead patients through their care journeys. 

“The care we provide in the community is enhanced greatly through the generous gifts from donors like Mr. and Mrs. Baumstark,” said Dr. David Meiners, Mercy Hospital St. Louis president. “Without donations like theirs, services such as cancer care navigation wouldn’t otherwise be possible.”
