Mercy Health Foundation Joplin Hosts Stick It to Cancer,
Women With a Mission Check Presentation

Mercy Health Foundation Joplin has had a big month. In two separate events, the Foundation has raised more than $200,000 and allocated nearly half that amount, raised by Women With a Mission.

The annual Stick It to Cancer event was held June 2 at the new Harry M. Cornell Arts and Entertainment Complex located in downtown Joplin. Thanks to everyone who attended the event and donated, Mercy Health Foundation raised a record-breaking $275,000 to support cancer patients in their community. The Joplin event featured a VIP reception, a dinner featuring local cuisine,  a performance by pianist Barron Ryan, fireworks show and an after-party with a groovy silent disco.

On June 13, an allocation ceremony was held where more than $113,000 was presented to various hospital leaders and departments. Mercy Joplin’s chapter of Women With a Mission, a giving society within Mercy Health Foundation, raised more money in the previous fundraising year than any other chapter in the Mercy system.

Some of the funded projects, selected by members of the giving society, include:

  • Mako orthopedic surgical robot
  • SAVI Scout breast cancer tumor radar localization device
  • New hospital beds at Mercy Hospital Columbus
  • Ultrasound disinfectant system and lab freezer at Mercy Hospital Carthage

This year’s Stick It to Cancer event was held at the Harry M. Cornell Arts and Entertainment Complex on June 2, 2023, in Joplin, MO.

The VIP Reception and dinner featured plates from local restaurants in Joplin and the surrounding areas.

Kathy Schoech, director of women’s and children’s service at Mercy Joplin, speaks during the allocation ceremony on June 13, with several co-workers and guests in attendance.
