Local Carthage Eagle Scout Raises Funds For Mercy Cancer Center

Ben Rogers, a Carthage High School senior, completed his Eagle Scout project by raising funds to provide headphones to infusion patients at Mercy Cancer Center. Ben’s father, Sam, died from colon cancer in September 2022. A lover of music, he found solace during his chemotherapy infusions by wearing noise cancelling headphones and listening to his favorite songs.

In memory of his dad, Ben raised $3,530, which he and Boy Scouts of America Troop 9, donated to Mercy Health Foundation Joplin to purchase 71 pairs of high-quality, noise-cancelling headphones. Ben and his family made a formal presentation to the care team at Mercy Hospital Joplin Cancer Center in honor of the care they provided. Read more about Ben’s project on the local news.
