Rosemary's Story

For more than three years, Rosemary Lakin faced her cancer journey with courage, grace and determination. Throughout that time, she and her husband Dan found not only expert medical care at the Sindelar Cancer Center, but also a family of compassionate Mercy caregivers who walked with them every step of the way.

Dan recalls how each member of the team touched their lives, from the front desk clerks to the oncologists, infusion nurses and radiation therapists. “It’s almost impossible to put into words how those we met inside the clinic changed our lives,” he wrote. “My wife often said on the drive home how amazing, professional and caring everyone was. I called them angels, with their wings hidden under their uniforms.”

Rosemary’s fight wasn’t easy, but the Lakins never faced it alone. Two of Rosemary’s infusion nurses attended her memorial, confirming to Dan the connection and love that had grown during their time at Sindelar.

Dan recently made a gift in Rosemary’s memory to the people and place that had such an incredible impact on their lives. A plaque bearing Rosemary’s name will soon be placed outside the chapel at the Sindelar Cancer Center, a lasting reminder of a beautiful, determined warrior, and the extraordinary caregivers who made her cancer journey a little easier.
