Mercy was founded in gratitude.
When a young Irish woman named Catherine McAuley received an unexpected inheritance, she gave thanks to God and her benefactor. Catherine used those funds to open the first house of Mercy, serving impoverished women and children in Dublin. Catherine founded the Sisters of Mercy, a new kind of religious community – one that lived outside cloistered walls. The sisters were known as the “walking Sisters” because of their willingness to go out and serve the community.
The Sisters of Mercy arrived in Missouri in 1856 and their mission continues today at Mercy Hospital Jefferson. Mercy Health Foundation Jefferson was formed in October 2013.
Catherine’s legacy lives on through the generous gifts of donors like you. Gifts to Mercy Health Foundation Jefferson support critical projects in this community. That’s right. Every dollar you give advances health care right here at home.
Access and Assistance
Mercy strives to help the poor by investing in programs that serve our must vulnerable patients.
Mercy Health Foundation Jefferson matches Mercy’s passion for the underserved by improving access to screening and diagnostic procedures for uninsured and underinsured patients.
Your contribution to Gift of Hope benefits Mercy’s hospice and palliative care programs and helps offer meaningful experiences for hospice patients nearing the end of life. Donors like you help provide education programs, medication assistance and other services beyond standard medical care to all patients in need.
Like the Sisters of Mercy before us, we are blazing a new trail to find lifelong cures through modern thinking and innovation.
Mercy Hospital Jefferson’s oncologists offer advanced treatment for the most challenging diseases while keeping patients close to home, but they can’t do it alone. Mercy Health Foundation Jefferson is committed to improving cancer treatment options in our community by investing in technology-driven programs and projects, education for co-workers in advanced and specialized fields and state-of the-art diagnostic equipment.
Your support also helps enhance the quality of cardiac care in our community. Mercy Health Foundation Jefferson funds training and education programs for cardiology co-workers with the goal of delivering the highest level of care possible to Mercy’s cardiac catheterization lab patients.
Women and Children
Catherine McAuley, Mercy’s Founder, had a particular concern for the poor. Even more specifically she worked to assist women and children in need.
Mercy Health Foundation Jefferson continues Catherine’s legacy by supplementing the program and equipment needs of Jefferson’s labor and delivery unit and helping new mothers and babies have everything they need to thrive.
Mercy patients and their families often want to say “thanks” in some special way for the exceptional care they received. Our Grateful Families program is one way to express gratitude while helping share the gift of healing with others. Learn more.
